Mercury the week of Feb. 26th 2019
Today’s show shows you where to find Mercury in the sky. If you go out right after sunset and look to the West, Mercury will be the first star you see low in the sky near where the sun set. On February 26th Mercury is at it’s greatest elongation from the sun, meaning it is furthest from the sun from our perspective.
If you have a telescope, you can see that Mercury has phases, just like the moon. We are currently looking at it on the side that is half facing the sun and half in shadow, so we see a half-Mercury.
