Using learning strategies in F2F Classrooms
I use a lot of elearning strategies in my face-to-face classroom because I teach in a multimedia lab that has one-to-one computer workstations. My classes always revolve around the class website, which is a place where lessons, assignments, announcements, and student work is posted. My multimedia academy website is: http://www.slamonline.net.
My lessons are everything from just web pages showing the steps it takes to do something to Youtube screencasts of working through skills. Students and parents can also keep track of everything that is happening in the class by looking at my class pages.
Something I would like to implement for next year is an academy Moodle learning site. There is no reason why a Moodle site can’t be an integral part of an F2F classroom.I have built the site already and it’s working, I have just not found the time to roll it out to the students or put it into use yet. I have struggled to get the moodle site working on our school computers and I’m still not confident that it will work well. I tried to implement a forum earlier in the year and it worked so slowly on our servers that it was just not workable. So I’m wary of dropping another way of doing things on this year’s students. Especially at the end of the year. Maybe I’ll do some tests as the end of the year comes just to test the waters.
Something else I am very excited about, but just need to find the time to do, is I want to put all my media lessons, strategies, and projects into an iBook so my students can use it as well as teachers/students who purchase the book. There is nothing like what I do in a book, and if a teacher wants to begin a multimedia program they have to make it all up as they go (like me!). So I think my book would be useful.
I also have big plans for a project I did for my Multimedia class this semester. I am going to create lessons and projects to go along with my Earthquake Trail video. Then, I am going to go to more geologic sites in California and create more videos. Each video will illustrate an Earth Science concept in the Next Generation Science Standards. I hope my videos and lessons will be useful to teachers and students.
